May Community Recap
Memorial Day Celebrations
At each event I attended over Memorial Day weekend, I heard people speak about the debt of gratitude we owe to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could enjoy our freedoms. Over a million men and women gave, as Abraham Lincoln said, “the last full measure of devotion” in service to their country, and in doing so, lay “so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.”
There is more we can do beyond words of gratitude: Memorial Day compels us to never forget that most solemn sacrifice that has been laid down around us. Our responsibility, now, is to live in the example of those who gave their all – an example of courage, of honor, and of enduring allegiance to liberty and justice for all.
Central MA Chiefs of Police Legislative Breakfast
It was a privilege to attend the return of the Central MA Chiefs of Police Association’s Legislative Breakfast, following a hiatus during the pandemic. This morning event provided a valuable opportunity to delve into the Chiefs’ legislative priorities and strengthen our connections with local law enforcement.
Alongside Senator John J. Cronin, I was honored to spend time with the Lunenburg Police Chief, Thomas Gammel, who also serves as the president of the CMCOPA. Our discussions shed light on the issues facing law enforcement in our community.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the dedicated men and women in blue, not just locally but everywhere. Thank you for your service!
Visit to DAV Gardner
During my recent visit to the DAV facility in Gardner, I witnessed first-hand the dedication of the staff and the impactful services provided to veterans. Their innovative approach, beautiful facility, and commitment to providing wraparound services is impressive, and I am happy to help spread the word about their exemplary work.
It is always a privilege to partner with and support our local veterans, whose dedicated service to our country deserves not just words, but our appreciation, our gratitude, and our actions that help support them. I will continue to fight to ensure veterans receive the support they deserve, including by advocating for the HERO Act, and my amendment to the bill, to become law.
Recognizing an Educator and Coach
It was wonderful to be in Groton on May 23 to recognize an exceptional educator and coach, Sean Murphy. Sean has devoted 35 years to teaching and mentoring the children of Groton-Dunstable. Educators like Sean play a critical role in shaping the leaders of tomorrow. Through his dedication to teaching and coaching in baseball, hockey, soccer, and ski team programs, Sean has inspired countless students to strive for success both on and off the field.
Sean’s contributions have helped guide strong, young leaders who will undoubtedly build a better future for us all. Congratulations, and thank you for your remarkable impact on our community. We are deeply grateful for your work.
Our Farms are the Best!
It is always a pleasure to visit Tully Farms in Dunstable, a sixth-generation family farm that exemplifies what “best” looks like (with delicious homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches!). It's even better when you get to join Deputy Commissioner Winton Pitcoff and staff from the MA Department of Agriculture to honor the Tully’s with a citation for their outstanding farming practices.
Lunenburg's Boys and Girls Club Rocks!
There is always something happening at the Boys and Girls Club: You can feel the energy when you walk in the door, and the smiles and happy conversations from every corner only underscore that everyone is welcome here. The Club offers a place for kids to be themselves and to challenge themselves, all while having fun in a safe and supportive environment. I love visiting!
Regional Collaborations Continue All-Around
It’s so powerful when conversations and collaborations are front-and-center. I organized regional calls as a way to bring our towns together: From our Veterans' Service Officers to town clerks to our Agriculture Commissions and our Councils on Aging and food pantries. In May, these latter two groups met to discuss a wide variety of policy positions, challenges, and opportunities. Thank you to Ayn Yaegle, Molly Velasco, and Kendal Royer from Growing Places who joined us to talk about ways to get fresh food to our seniors!
Sincerely,
Margaret
